Tracking Plays of Embedded Vimeo Videos

Vimeo is a commonly-used video upload site, and it is a popular alternative to other video sites, such as YouTube. Now, you can track your Vimeo video plays using Informz web tracking. The JavaScript know-how you’ll need to make this work is described below. Additionally, you’ll need the ability to make changes to your website. Let's take a look.

Most Vimeo videos are embedded using iFrames. To track your video views, you'll first need the Vimeo iFrame code (you can find this when you share a Vimeo video).

Additionally, you'll need to add the normal Informz Web Tracking Code to the bottom of the web page containing the embedded video.

Next, add the following script (change the text in square brackets to match your Video Name!):

<script src=""></script>
var iframe = document.querySelector('#vimeo_video_frame');
var player = new Vimeo.Player(iframe);

player.on('play', function() {
informz_trk('trackStructEvent','Played Video','[Video Name]', '');

That’s all there is to it! Now you’ll see interaction data related to video plays in your Web Tracking Report.

Just Push Play!

With Informz web tracking and some JavaScript, you're on your way to tracking all of your Vimeo plays! And, if someone refuses to believe that your video has truly gone "viral," you'll now have the data to back it up!
