Support for Animated GIFs
Video support across all email clients is inconsistent, making an animated GIF your best bet. An animated GIF has almost universal support across all of the major email clients, except for Outlook.
When using certain versions of Outlook, only the first frame of the animated GIF will display. This means if you have any important information in the subsequent frames, make sure the first frame holds that pertinent information.
The following email clients support animated GIFs:
Desktop Email Clients
- Apple Mail
- Lotus Notes 6, 7 and 8.5
- Outlook 2003, Express
- Outlook 2007, 2010 (only first frame displays)
- Outlook for Mac 2011
- Windows Live Mail 2011
Web-Based Email Clients
- AOL Web
- Yahoo! Mail
Mobile Email Clients
- Android (default/native app)
- Android (Gmail)
- Windows Mobile 7
